Project Coqui desires to sponsor a Summer Camp in Humacao, Puerto Rico, scheduled from 3 to 29 June 2019.  This Summer Camp is focused on fun and educational activities that foster family values, integrity, and being a good citizen in the community.

Mr. Felix Santiago, a retired Electrical Engineer, and a friend is coordinating the Summer Camp, sponsored by “Instituto Nueva Escuela, Inc” a Not-for-Profit with registration number 401792.  Attached please find a Certificate of Good Standing from the Government of Puerto Rico and further details:

Humacao is located next to ground zero for Hurricane Maria.  In 2016, the federal poverty income threshold was $24,339 for a family of four.  In 2016, the median income in Humacao had a poverty level of more than 45%, which drastically increased after Hurricane Maria, but there are no current statistics available.

In a recent conversation with Felix, I learned that last year he was able to find Summer Camp sponsorship for only four children.  The local needs are multiple and finding sponsors was really hard.  The cost per child is $275 and Project Coqui invites our friends and family network to make a contribution, does not matter how small, to help sponsor children from low-income families to participate in this summer experience.  Hope we can sponsor more than the local community.  My wife Nilsa and I are going to volunteer most of the summer in PR and will make sure we tell stories about the children we sponsor.

If you donate the full amount to sponsor a child to participate, please let me know and I will make sure that you get to know the name of the child that you sponsored and a short background.  Thank you for your kind donations.

Cordially,

Mel
